Spring Break Austin

No flood todayIt’s been a great week in Austin. We rode 7 consecutive days, just shy of 400 miles including our first century of the season. We experienced tiny country roads with low bridges subject to flooding, and many massive highways. We spent more time on 6-lane roads than ever before. The drivers and the people have all been very friendly. We have a fuller understanding of the expression “southern hospitality”. Folks offered to help us find our way; gave us water; visited with us; and gave us space on the roads. For that we are thankful. (more…)

Finding our Way in Austin

Mellow Johnny’s home of Lance Armstrong

We’d already planned a Spring Break trip to Texas.  Turns out to be a great opportunity to train for our big tour and test out all our equipment. We arrived in Austin Saturday the 14th after 11 hours of traveling, including 3 hours at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport. The first thing we saw upon arriving […]

Lost in Austin

New Sweden Church

Long ride, short entry

Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, TX

Hill country

Colorado River at Mansfield Dam

Today we got off the flats. We rode down the 360 to Bee Cave and looped by Mansfield Dam which creates Lake Travis. None of this means anything to our friends outside of Texas so I’ll give you a clue. It was hilly. Not quite Chilly Hilly hill because the grades were longer and there […]

102 miles! H, H, H

Kelli’s Up-n-Smoke Bar and Grill

Hot, Hilly and Headwinds were what we experienced as we completed our first century in several years. And it was earlier in the year than ever before. Maybe this should be the year we aim for a century every month. Sheila thinks this is unacceptable and I should take it out of the post immediately. […]

Best laid plans

We wanted a shorter ride after our successful century, so we rented a van for the day so we could drive out to the wildflower fields near Marble Falls. It was an adventure. Much different than we had planned. After driving more than an hour we arrived at the same time as a weather front […]
